Malta Information

Serious crime in virtually non-existent in Malta but the police still maintain a high-profile presence. It is safe to drink the domestic tap water, however it does have a salty after-taste which may be uncomfortable for some and bottled water is widely available. The electricity in Malta is 240 volts and operates via a British-style three-pin plug. Adaptors can be bought at the airport and in many stores locally

Shopping
Malta has everything you'd expect to find in a modern European state from luxury auto dealers to newsagents. The principal shopping areas are in Sliema and Valletta but most are relatively small outlets that specialise in tourist souvenirs, jewellery, books and clothing.

The three-floor Tower Supermarket in Tower Road in Sliema has its own multi-storey car park (parking costs are refunded with a receipt from the supermarket) and is arguably the best place on Malta to stock up on provisions and household goods, while Ta'Qali Craft Village is the place for that unique gift.

In Valletta 's Great Ditch, a market takes place every Sunday morning with stalls selling everything from key chains and baseball caps to replica T-shirts, hand-woven table napkins and a large range of confectionary including Malta 's famous peanut-toffee brittle and nougat. At the same time, a fish market operates at Marsaxlokk.
